BTT: Other Worlds

btt21 BTT: Other Worlds

Are there any particular worlds in books where you’d like to live?

Or where you certainly would NOT want to live?

What about authors? If you were a character, who would you trust to write your life?

This was the BTT topic the week we were in Michigan, and since we are now road-tripping through Colorado, I thought I would save it for when I was again off-line…

Boy…  so many fictional worlds I would enjoy — and detest!  I think this idea of escapism, of living many lives through the pages of a book is one of my favorite aspects of reading.

In fact, I should rescind my previous statement about detest certain worlds.  Although there are certain books I was happy to finish — or wouldn’t read before bed — I am still so grateful they were apart of my life.  We Need to Talk About Kevin comes to mind…  I certainly was relieved that Eva’s life was not remotely like my own, but I did enjoy her psychological journey and appreciated her struggles.

If I were a character, I would love for Jane Austen or Michael Chabon to write my life.  Maybe as a collaboration?  What a mess that could be!  But each author has such compassion and insight into human nature, and I know they would present my flaws and failures in the most interesting and redeeming light possible…

What about you?
