My second meme!  Thank you to katesaltfleet and her beautiful blog Experiments in Living  for inviting me to join the meme started at Twenty Five Days to Make a Difference.  I have spent a lot of time considering the following questions lately, especially since this is the first December I have not been in the classroom in fifteen years, and I look forward to reading others’ answers as well!

Here we go:

1. In your opinion, what does it mean to make a difference?

I think making a difference means improving someone’s life — from a kind word that prompts a smile to sharing advice or wisdom that helps someone fulfill a dream or get on the right path.  When I was in the classroom, this question was pretty easy to answer, but I have been wondering lately if I can make a significant difference through my blog, as well…

2. What is an example of a unique way to make a difference?

Since I’m so new to the blogosphere, blogging still feels like a unique way to make a difference.  I think “keeping the classics alive” through my blog is unique.  I am hoping to expand into the world of “instant classics” — Pulitzer Prize winners, Booker Award winners, etc. this January and help people identify and appreciate contemporary fiction that will become the classics of tomorrow.  I have been surprised at how my current Reader picks make a difference in my life every day.  I hope to do the same for my readers!

3. Who has made a differenct in YOUR life in this week?

My friend Joe has been very instrumental on my blogging journey, and this week he told my sister kind words about my learning curve that really meant a lot to me, especially since I still feel riddled with techological insecurities.  The day after I heard his kind words, half my blog disappeared due to some errant code I was playing with, and remembering Joe’s confidence, as a technologically-savvy person, meant a lot to me.

4. If I didn’t have a blog, would you still be making a difference?

Well, I would be teaching so I think I would.  I’m hoping to start volunteering next year — with the Minnesota Center for the Blind and with We Can Ride this summer, just in case my blog doesn’t make a difference for a while!

5. What is your favourite thing about the internet?

As an introvert, I love how connected people can be, even from the comfort of our homes.  I love how easy it is to find people — and really nice people — with the same interests who are willing to share wisdom and advice at any point in the day.

Thank you so much, Katesaltfleet.  I’m going to tag a few of the blogs that have made a difference to me this year: Joe Sack,  Positivity Blog,  Dumb Little Man,  Zen HabitsMarcoRichterSkelliewagThe Good Human,  Paper Cuts

All of the above blogs make a difference every day!  Thank you!
