Bark up the Right Tree by Jessie & Ruth Tschudin
Release date: 2008 / 112 pages
Synopsis (from back cover): What happens when a senior dog and a senior citizen decide to team up? Watch out, world! Jessie the dog was abandoned by her lifelong family. A the very same time, Ruth had an unusual premonition. It as came together as Jessie barreled her way (quite literally!) into the lives and hearts of the Tschudin family.
First line: “Woof! Woof! I’m so glad you’re here.”
Review: I looked forward to reading this little book. I’ve been a dog lover for as long as I can remember, and cannot imagine what the past 17 years would have been like without my own “pound puppy” — a pitbull/border collie mix — who has been by my side through the most painful events of my life through to the happiest, and I’m so grateful she lived to meet and love my husband. I know we are living on borrowed time at this point, and truly cherish each and every day I have with her.
So, I looked forward to meeting Jessie and enjoyed my hour with her. This book is actually written from the perspective of Jessie, a black lab, and so is not for everyone. However, if a book written by a dog does not concern you, then I think you might enjoy this. If you are a crazy dog lover — or have children as obsessed with dogs – then you may want to suspend your disbelief and give this sweet little book a try.
Ruth Tschudin decides to adopt Jessie and this book describes the adventures of dog ownership. Jessie ended up in a pound after his previous owner’s child starting abusing him. Ruth welcomes him into her life and they quickly bond and enjoy the many adventures all dog lovers will recognize.
Ruth is donating 10% of the sales of this book to help animals and children in need of homes. As I mentioned, my beloved dog was once a “pound puppy” and my husband and I feel strongly about adopting unwanted dogs in the future, too. Fortunately, the media has started to publicize the horrors found in puppy mills and more and more people are committing to not supporting the breeding of more and more dogs when there are so many unwanted ones waiting for a home.
So, if you are a parent and would like to get your children thinking about the challenges and responsibilities of dog ownership, this book is for you! And, if you are interested, please drop me a comment and I’ll put you in the running!
Welcome back!

This looks like a great book.

My husband and I have three children, the youngest is 18. We have had numerous dogs in their lives. One American Bulldog, Rebel, followed our oldest son everywhere he went. Our son was only 4 at the time, but we nevered worried about him exploring. We live in the country, and Matt knew not to head for the highway, there were plenty of other places to go. We have had Collies, Cocker Spaniels, and mixture of those.

I have loved reading about everyone’s dogs!! I wish I had asked for this at the end of my post — great idea!
Now I have images of Linda and Molly’s yellow labs and Sharon’s black Lab floating through my mind! Any chance Mindy’s lab is chocolate? Our neighbor’s chocolate lab, Tucker, is the softest dog I have ever pet. And so sweet, too, of course — gotta love labs!
Molly — Once our beloved Juno has moved on, we are considering getting TWO dogs. How much more work are multiple dogs? And is it worth it (of course…)?
