Remember Me: Review and Free Giveaway

Release date: 2011 / 508 pages

Synopsis (from Amazon): Mia and Danielle had vowed to stay best friends for life-until one indiscretion destroyed that bond forever. Twenty years later, tragedy reunites them in an unexpected way. Now they must confront the past, discover its untold truths, and rebuild a friendship destined to endure…

First Sentence: Disheveled and appearing frail, Mia Marks-Glitch rushed through the automatic sliding glass doors of the hospital with a powerfully built man by her side.

Review:  This is an easy book to review, even though a few aspects challenged me as a reader.  Despite the length, the pages fly by and the characters are very easy to like.  Readers who prefer character-driven epics — narratives that span much of a lifetime — or books about friendship will most likely really enjoy this.

My own reservations were that at times Remember Me was too contrived — long-lost friends happening to have daughters the same age who happen to become college roommates even though they live in different states, car accidents coincidentally bringing together estranged high school buddies, miraculous hospital recoveries when all hope is lost, etc…  This novel also focused on “issues” a bit too much for my taste: texting while driving, breast cancer, racism, etc.  Although I agreed with the author’s views on each issue (few wouldn’t, I hope), the issues felt intrusive at times — or at least distracting.

However, even these few complaints feel unnecessary since I do believe many readers would enjoy this sweet story of friendship.  So, if you are interested, please leave me a comment and I will choose a winner by the weekend!
