10 Best Books Never Read

btt21 10 Best Books Never Read

A couple of weeks ago I missed a BTT and didn’t even read the topic until after I had, coincidentally, watched my beloved CBS Sunday Morning show and saw a segment on the 10 Best Books Never Read.  Obviously I thought ”great idea for a post!”  So, here’s the “official” list of books that people have lied about reading:
1. 1984
2. War and Peace
3. Ulysses
4. The Bible
5. Madame Bovary
6. A Brief History of Time
7. Midnight’s Children
8. Remembrance of Things Past
9. Dreams Of My Father
10. The Selfish Gene

Now I have read 1984 and Madame Bovary (I promise! icon smile 10 Best Books Never Read )

Which of these have you read?  Have you lied about reading any?  More importantly, why do we lie about reading??

I haven’t read any of them! I don’t remember ever lying about it though. I think people lie about reading certain books because they don’t want to see less intelligent for not having read them.

I have read 1984, Ulysses and the Bible. I had to read the first two for lit classes (I have an English degree). Ulysses was just plain weird to me.

I don’t lie about having read books, because I have read so many that no one would think I wasn’t well read! LOL!

I’ve read 1984 and most of the Bible. I can’t decide whether I should count Madame Bovary. What I read was abridged but it was in French.

I’m as neurotically insecure as most people, but I can’t imagine lying about having read a book. I plan to read War and Peace and Ulysses someday. Or maybe I’m lying when I say that.

So true! And I have the problem, as an English teacher, of feeling like I SHOULD have read all of these… But there are so many great books and so little time…

  5. Kristen says:

You totally have to count M Bovary — especially since you read it in French!! Nice…
