What book do you think should be made into a movie? And do you have any suggestions for the producers?
Or, What book do you think should NEVER be made into a movie?
I have a few ideas regarding this week’s BTT topic, but I’m particularly looking forward to reading other thoughts on this, too.
First, I think I prefer to see character-driven or plot-driven books made into movies. You may ask — what else is there? Well, if a novel’s strength is primarily the prose, the imagery, the literary devices, etc… then I would probably rather NOT see it made into a movie (like White Oleander, for example).
On the other hand, I actually preferred the movie version of Bridges of Madison County to the book — and I feel the same way about the few Nicholas Sparks’ books I’ve both read and seen. (I’ve learned to just wait for the movie with ol’ Sparks… although I thoroughly enjoyed his memoir!?!).
So, of the books I have recently read — I would choose So Brave, Young, and Handsome, The Memory of Running, and The Glassblower of Murano for their plot.
With regard to rich character development I would choose The Stepmother, The Godmother,The Queens of Freeville and Things I Want My Daughters to Know (reviews coming very soon!).
And for character development and setting I would choose The Only True Genius in the Family.
I think all of the above are good bets for successful book to movie translation potential.
So, what do you all think? What books should NEVER have been made into movies — and which ones SHOULD grace the silver screen?

Ooh, I just read about Glassblower. I want to read it!
I’ve not read any of those! I’ve got the Glassblower of Murano waiting to be read though. I won it!
You’ve got quite a good list. My title is different; it’s here:
