Friday Finds: January 9

Happy Friday!!  I hope you enjoy what I found interesting this week in the literary world…friday+finds Friday Finds: January 9

Sunday’s Reader’s Advisory posted a list of memoirs that examine racial identity. Since I’m about to welcome an African-American niece into our family, I couldn’t help but take notice. So far I’ve only read two of the selections (The Color of Water and I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings), but I’m moving up on the library’s list for The Audacity of Hope.

The Millions posted a list (with links!) of every work of fiction published in The New Yorker last year — looking for a great new short story?  Here you go…

As always, here is a list of what we’re reading, based on sales…   Gotta love a top 10 list that includes books by the Gosslins, Denis Leary, and Bill O’Reilly…

And here is an overview of what the newspaper reviews were talking about this year…

Despite my less than stellar review, The Secret Scripture won the Costa award!

But I completely understand the hype surrounding Netherland (review coming Sunday)!

By the way, since I’ll be leaving again for 2 weeks soon I’ve paired down my Reader offerings (temporarily) — so, if I miss an interesting tidbit, please leave me a comment.  Inquiring minds want to know!  icon smile Friday Finds: January 9
