Book Blow-up Wrap-up!
By Kristen on Jul 31, 2008 in Reviews

Well, hard to believe it’s already the end of July! I participated in a reading challenge this month and did pretty well overall…
The challenge was to set ourselves the challenge of reading a certain number of books in the month of July, and I divided up my list into “Books to Review,” “Books for Book Club Kits,” and “Books… Who Needs a Reason!?”
First, “Books to Review:”
- You-Turn by Dr. Nancy Irwin
- Spark by Arupa Tesolin
- Dear John by Norma L. Betz
- months and seasons by Christopher Meeks
I managed to read all of my books to review, plus Meeks’ wonderful collection!
Second, “Books for Kits”:
- The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky(since I started this one way back in June, it only counts as half)
- Fences by August Wilson
- Mudbound by Hillary Jordan
- A Man of His Village by Tanyo Ravicz
I read all of my kit books, plus Ravicz’s excellent hero’s journey (review coming soon!)
Third, “Books Just Because“…
- The God of Animals by Aryn Kyle
- The Hearts of Horses by Molly Gloss (see note with Bro. K)
- The Knitting Circle by Ann Hood
- Keeper and Kid by Edward Hardy
- Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen
- Belong to Me by Marisa de los Santos
Did well and read even more than I had expected…
- Dispatches from the Edge by Anderson Cooper (audio book)
Tried to listen to Cooper’s memoir, but it was just too relentlessly depressing…
- Jayber Crow by Wendell Berry
Packed this one for my upcoming trip!
So, that’s my update! Thank you, Mrs. S. for hosting this fun and easy challenge!!

Kristen - your posts are never boring! Thanks for taking part in the challenge - you got through a lot of books - and we both read the God of Animals!
Oh and I meant to say - you know the WWSGD plugin that you use for the welcome back message - I switched mine to the foot of my posts - have it on permanently with the subscribe message and my subscribers increased by about 70 within a week or two.

Thank you for the tip! When I get back from vacation I will change it — I wasn’t sure if top or bottom would be best. Thanks for a great challenge, too!
