This week’s list of Best Books for Book Clubs comes from Book Sense, an organization that helps market independent bookstores across the nation. If your book club is interested is selecting one of their picks, I have kits (reading guides, etc.) available for Loving Frank and The Gathering (and Out Stealing Horses by the end of the week), and I would love to create a kit for any of the other titles, too. By the way, I’ve linked each title to Amazon, in case you are interested in checking out reviews or purchasing any of the following.
Here’s Book Sense’s top ten:
- Loving Frank by Nancy Horan
- The Gathering by Ann Enright
- The Tenderness of Wolves: A Novel by Stef Penney
- Luncheon of the Boating Party by Susan Vreeland
- Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life by Barbara Kingsolver
- Kabul Beauty School: An American Woman Goes Behind the Veil by Deborah Rodriguez and Kristin Ohlson
- The Uncommon Reader: A Novella by Alan Bennett
- A Three Dog Life by Abigail Thomas
- Out Stealing Horses by Per Petterson
- The Knitting Circle by Ann Hood
Thank you to Book Club Girl for leading me to this list!

Why would you link to Amazon when this list has been generated by independent booksellers? Please buy your books form your local bookstore (if you still have one that is!). or, go to your local library.
Keep it local, folks.

Thanks for the comment! I do use my library, but also appreciate the fact that my affiliate links to Amazon make this blog possible, too. Your comment would be even more appropriate on this post: http://bookclubclassics.com/Blog/2008/07/10/btt-are-you-a-book-store-snob/
There was more of a discussion on that post…
Thanks for stopping by!
Thought you should know, that you have two authors reversed in your Book Sense top ten for May. Susan Vreeland wrote Luncheon of the Boating Party and Stef Penny wrote The Tenderness of Wolves. Do I get a free book
Already read Vreelands book (and loved it) but would love to read and share with my book discussion group, Literazzi, The Tenderness of wolves. Love your site anyway.
Thank you!! I will change that immediately… I wish I had a copy of EACH to send to you
