I think many of my readers are thinking… What the heck is “RSS Awareness Day“? Well, let me fill you in on a great way to simplify the information you receive each day with a little something called “Readers“!
I recently noticed that half of my readers subscribe to my blog through email — which is great and thank you for reading, by the way… But ever since Anna from 23at40 filled me on the world of “Readers”, my life has changed — quite drastically, in fact, and the blogosphere is dedicating May 1st to getting the word out about this great invention.
A ”Reader” is sort of like a “home page,” but truly tailored to only your interests. Currently, my Reader involves 14 blogs about blogging, 5 random blogs on a variety of subjects, 8 blogs on how to live life better, and 30 lit blogs (check out my blogroll “What I’m reading” to see my current favorites). Every time a blog updates, the post is sent directly to my Reader so I never have to go to the actual blog. This way, I have little articles on all of my favorite subjects, ready for my perusal whenever I have a minute. And when I don’t have a minute — no big deal. The Reader saves new articles until I am ready to read or delete them.
Sound time consuming? Only if you let it be… Basically, I check my Reader at breakfast (5-10 minutes), at lunch (5-10 minutes), and then in the evening (5 minutes). Now, I read quite a few… but I also have a blog and have a particular interest in knowing what’s going on in the world of books and blogs.
If you think you might be interested in trying on a Reader for size – Trish recently wrote a terrific “how to” post on setting up a Reader on her blog Hey Lady! Whatcha Reading? It is very clear and I bet you will be surprised at just how easy (and wonderful) a Reader can be!
Oh, and it’s completely free, by the way…
