What Should I Read Next?

In case there a few readers out there who don’t know about this website yet…  Check out What Should I Read Next?  Just plug in a title and see what other readers recommend…  I played around a little, and plugged in two well-known novels: Pride and Prejudice and A Thousand Splendid Suns.

If you liked Pride and Prejudice, they recommend…

  • Mansfield Park by Jane Austen (not much of a stretch…)
  • Howard’s End by E. M. Forster (good call…)
  • Vanity Fair by William Makepeace Thackeray (NOT a romance, but definitely satirical…)
  • Rebecca by Daphne DuMaurier (probably a better match with Wuthering Heights…)
  • The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (ummm…  o.k….)
  • Elegance by  Kathleen Tessaro (haven’t read it…)
  • Middlemarch by George Eliot (YES!)
  • A Room with a View by E.M. Forester (loved the movie…)
  • Far From the Madding Crowd (haven’t read it, but really liked Tess)
  • Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy (so very good…)

Now for A Thousand Splendid Suns

  • Water for Elephants: A Novel by Sara Gruen
  • The Blood of Flowers by Anita Amirrezvani
  • Family Pictures by Sue Miller
  • Peony in Love by Lisa See
  • People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks
  • The View From Mount Joy: A Novel by Lorna Landvik
  • Lullabies for Little Criminals: A Novel by Heather O’Neill
  • The Madonnas of Leningrad: A Novel by Debra Dean
  • Waking with Enemies by Eric Jerome Dickey

Well, I have only read the first one, but I have heard of a few of the other selections and my impression is that the site is recommending other “hot” book club titles and authors, but not necessarily similar themes?  I would have loved to see The Cairo Trilogy by Naguib Mahfouz on the list.

Any others you can think of?
