Inspired by the ever-approaching end of the year and an idea gleaned from Kate’s Book Blog (who was inspired by Danielle who was inspired by Sylvia who was inspired by Stephen), I’ve decided to start my first meme! However, since my blog is only two months old, following their example of listing the first line from the first posting of each month would be a little silly, so I thought I would do a “mini-retrospective” of my favorite posts so far. So I will choose my “Top 10 Posts” (in no particular order) and if any of the following first lines catch your interest, be sure to click the link and check out the entire posting.
This week I received my first comments from “new friends” (welcome!) and would love to keep the trend alive, so feel free to comment on any posting… Forgive me if my replies are slow — I’m hoping to spend the holidays less attached to my lovely laptop! But I welcome feedback and insights from all…
For those of you who are unaware of what a “meme” is (I just learned last month!), here is a brief description, courtesy of The Daily Meme: a meme is an idea that evolves and transfers from one person to the next (hence my references to KateDanielleSylviaStephen…).
My favorite postings so far…
Welcome to Book Club Classics! “My hope is that this site will become a forum for discussion about literature — particularly the classics.”
The Top Chef of Literature! “Another statement I have heard throughout the years from countless students is “I don’t like reading.”
Division I Oprah! “So, back to my earlier blog about the “Top Chef” of writing…”
My Biographical Dilemma “As a teacher, beyond the task of convincing students that reading classic literature is worth their time and energy, one of the most frustrating aspects of introducing a new novel is deciding how much biographical information to include.”
Wuthering Heights — How intentional is genius? “Still ruminating over how much of an artist’s genius is subconscious — and whether this de-values the role of the artist (or the opposite — maybe true artists should be evaluated on how willing they are to get out of their own way?)…”
Book Clubs and Blogs “As a newcomer to the blogosphere, I have to admit that I just didn’t get it at first. My assumption was that blogs were simply on-line journals, and why would anyone feel the need to share their diary with the world?”
A Little Bit Better “After reading today’s Zen Habits posting, I couldn’t help but think about how blogging has made me a better person…”
Splendid Suns of our childhood “Just over a week ago, I saw the movie (I mean film!) Gone Baby Gone and knew from the very first voice-over that I would love it.”
Instant Classics — coming right up! “Well, after spending the past six months creating classic kits for book clubs, I think I need to mix things up a bit. ”
Lists! Lists! It must be the end of the year… “No surprise, considering the nature of this web site and it’s ever-expanding lists of kits, I love lists.”
Well, thank to all my readers this year — Hopefully 2008 will be even more insightful!
